The role of University Hubs and DIH in pathways to Technology Transfer | Buni Hybrid Workshop

April ends with a hybrid workshop in Tanzania! 

On the 20th of April, Buni Hub, under the umbrella of the AfriConEU Networking Academy, hosted an online workshop on “Technology Valorization: The Role of University Hubs and DIH in Pathways to Technology Transfer”. This workshop aimed to explore the value added in Technology transfer, emphasizing value proposition and showcasing successful Technology transfer models. 

The session started with the presentation of the AfriConEU by Gideon Brefo, Co-founder of HapaSpace. Our speakers, Gerald Kafuku, Director at Centre for Development and Transfer of Technology, COSTECH, Cecilia Rolence China, Leather Technologists Nelson Mandela Africa Institute for Science and Technology, Peter Chisawillo, MECI, Erasto Mlyuka, Manager Technology Transfer & Management Unit, Luckness Jangu, NM-AIST, Seka Kasera, BRELA, Naana Halm, Program Officer TISC Development, section IP for Innovators Department WIPO discussed the challenges around  IP, patents and copyright. 

Through different perspectives, the key highlight was that if someone has an invention they cannot sell to the market, they have nothing. For this reason, the mindset around technology transfer has to change focusing on the fact that the capacity needs to be built and boosted.
