As April is approaching its end, another AfriConEU Networking Academy Event was successfully completed. On the 29th of March, ATBN hosted an online webinar on the “Impact investing and subsidized finance”. The webinar highlighted the reasons why it is crucial for DIHs to understand impact investing and subsidized finance not only for them to be able to attract funding for their programmes but also to support their start-ups to benefit from these opportunities. It covered the fundamentals of impact investing and introduced participants to the key players and funders within the impact investment and finance landscape.

The webinar started with the presentation of the AfriConEU Project and its innovations by Pedro Campilho, International Project Manager at INOVA+. Then, our moderator of the discussion, Eunice Baguma Ball, Director of ATBN warmly welcomed our speaker Alforde Charumbira, Global Social Impact & Investing Strategist, Utando Social Impact Solutions highlighting that “Digital innovation is a key driver for social impact, as in Africa digital technologies enable locally-led solutions”.

Alforde Charumbira, shared some valuable insights about the impact investing, explaining that it’s not only about financial returns but also about creating social impact. At the completion of the event Stav Bar-Shany, Director of ATBN stated that “For the African market, we need impact investors willing to take much more risk”, describing perfectly the market today.
